Talk at the School - Early Quakers & Swarthmoor

Tuesday 25 August·19:30 – 20:30

Hawkshead Grammar School

Main Street, Hawkshead, LA22 0NT

Join Collections Officer for Swarthmoor Hall, Lucy Saint-Smith to explore the early years of the Quaker movement and links to Hawkshead. What was it like to grow up at the heart of a new religious movement? This talk will look at the life of former Hawkshead pupil William Caton and his place at the centre of Quakerism in the 17th century. The venue is just up from Hawkshead Car Park, through black iron gates on the path towards the Church. We have one step at the entrance and the talk will take place downstairs. Drinks will be provided. The exhibition room will be open for you to look round however, the upstairs is only accessible by stairs. The talk will last approximately 40 minutes with time for questions. The schoolroom is often chilly, so we recommend layering up! Tickets may also be bought at the door.
