Kendal
Chaps Choir And The Growing Singers
Brewery Arts
122A Highgate, Kendal, LA9 4HE
Come for an evening of entertainment and delight with these two wonderful choirs – one visiting, especially for this weekend, from London and one very special local community choir. They will have you laughing one minute and possibly shedding a tear of joy the next – all wrapped up with glorious harmonies and acapella singing that will soothe your soul!
This is a fundraising event to showcase the transformational work done by local charity Growing Well who support adults to improve their mental health in beautiful, productive and non-clinical settings in Kendal, Tebay and West Cumbria. Chaps Choir is a large singing gang from London; say goodbye to the male voice choir most would recognise. The group has been sharing its joy-inducing, heart-string pulling repertoire to audiences since 2013. Prepare for pop re-hashes, snowy hunting calls, self-aware pirates and, well, lots of men singing … Their voices have filled the Royal Festival Hall, Roundhouse, Union Chapel & other major London venues. They’ve performed live on Saturday night prime time TV, recorded at Abbey Road and been the subject of articles, news pieces & podcasts exploring men’s singing & male community.
The choir has released a full length live album as well as numerous singles and video projects over the years, aiding its mission to bring the metropolitan singing chap into the choral melee. They envision a world where all chaps (and ‘other’ men) can find their singing voice. The choir was founded and is led by singer & choir director Dom Stichbury.
The Growing Singers is a large community choir based here in Kendal. Since 2023, they have performed locally delighting audiences, and themselves, singing a mixture of well known songs with some lesser known but equally cracking songs. They strive to blend harmony with building a supportive community through life affirming group singing. They enjoy the camaraderie of learning and performing together, with lots of laughter along the way. The group was founded and is led by Clare Elleray and Rachael Wadey (Growing Singing CIC).
